How to Visually Group Product Into Rows
The Group Into Rows Tool
Groups and the Group Into Rows Fixing Tool are available on all Premium plans.

This tool is used to automatically visually merchandise collection pages. When making sort changes, for example pushing all out of stock products to the bottom, you might find products that don't fit well together are next to one another in a row.
With the Magic Group Into Rows Tool, you can group visually matching products or products you want to feature together on a row. Then Collection Merchandiser will automatically place those together in rows of 2, 3, 4 or 5 during an Automation.
How to Create Groups
Take the above example, we've merchandised by stock level but the products are not visually merchandised well.
We ideally want products from our outdoor photoshoot together, and products from our studio shoot together. Plus there's some accessories that work well with certain products.
First step is to create groups. This takes a few seconds and can be done in the Drag and Drop Merchandiser. Simply select the products you want grouped together on a row and click Group into a New Group.

It's recommended to create groups of more than 8, so the Automation have enough products to allocate to rows. However, you can group however you wish.

Groups are automatically given a name (e.g. Light Blue) to distinguish them from one another. When created, they exist across collections, so a group can be used on any category without having to recreate them.
How to Use Groups
Groups can be used on Automations and on the Drag and Drop Merchandiser.
For the Drag and Drop Merchandiser, select either Smart Sort (from the menu) or the sort all products below button (on every product card Action Buttons). The Auto Sort panel will popup.

The groups dropdown can be seen in the above image. Select one of the group options:
- Do no group products into rows - Groups will be ignored and will not affect sorting
- Try to group products into rows - Collection Merchandiser will move products around to try and place products in the same group together on a row. If that's not possible, it will sort them as normal.
After selecting a group option you can select how many products you want in a row.

The Group tool can be used in the same way on Automations, for every section.
You can also choose to sort the section/collection alongside grouping products. For example, you can sort a section by Performance Score and group products into rows of 4.
Once you've selected your options, click Sort Products (on the Drag and Drop Merchandiser) or Save and wait for an Automation (on Automations) and the grouping tool will sort products automatically and visually merchandise your collections.
Product Groups may be split up by "pinned" products
Tips
- If a product is not available to buy on the Online Store (e.g. its a Draft product), then that product will be ignored during grouping. You may find it in between products in a group, but as it won't appear in a collection page, it won't break a group.
- The group tool is unavailable for stores with an Online Store password (i.e. stores that haven't launched yet).
- The group tool is powerful but can produce some unexpected results if you're not familiar with it. It's recommended to implement on some smaller collections to get used to it.
- Keep up to date with creating groups when new products are added.
- Create large enough groups so the grouping tool has enough products to merchandise together.
- Contact support at any time if you're unsure or want some advice on how to best use the grouping tool.
