Permissions Update July 2024

Inline with recent changes at Shopify, Collection Merchandiser will soon be changing how it tracks customer events. In order to do this, we are required to update the access permissions we request from your store. These new permissions include:

  • Creating web pixels
  • Accessing customer details

What information will you track?

Currently Collection Merchandiser tracks and saves events such as page visits, add to carts, purchases, etc. through our analytics features.

All information is anonymous. Collection Merchandiser does not access or store any personal customer information such as names, emails, IP addresses, etc.

Why do you need these permissions?

Among others, your analytics features tracks the following events; add to carts and purchases. Shopify adds identifiable customer information to these events. For example, a purchase would include a customer email address.

Despite not using this identifiable customer information in any way, Shopify still requires Collection Merchandiser to have the above permissions in order to access and track these events.

The customer information is not accessed or saved.

I don't use the analytics features, do I still need to update the permissions?

Unfortunately, Shopify doesn't allow different permission levels for apps. We are required to ask for all necessary permissions from all app users.

Do you use tracking cookies?

No, Collection Merchandiser does not make use of cookies to track customers. Once a user leaves your store, we 'forget' the user and are unable to link them to any subsequent visits (both on your site and others).
